2016 SHARC Activity
SAND HILLS AMATEUR RADIO CLUB- - - - - - - -2016
Following activities by SHARC for the year 2016
There were multiple license upgrades and new license exams given.
We welcomed new hams into club, Chuck, KEØHAP, from Sharon Springs, Fred Jones, KEØGXV, from Lakin, Gene Robertson, WXØPDS, of Garden City, and Nate Brown, KEØLBI, from Leoti.
Several attended the Western Kansas ARC picnic in Tribune, along with visitors from Colorado and some other states, hosted by KDØEZS.
Jim, ACØE, Marion, KAØRID, and Dale, NØKQX attended the Dayton Hamvention and gave a report of the activities.
The club attempted to operate Field Day at the Finney Co LEC but Mother Nature had different plans. There was a horrendous thunderstorm with lots of lightning. Efforts were cancelled.
A 6 meter repeater was installed on the Finney Co tower in NE Finney Co. Frequency is 52.870 +1,7Mhz, tone of 141.3.
Floyd Cook, WØYQX secured a new URL for the SHARC web page and updated the entries, it is now www.SandHillsARC.com.
Several from our area, SHARC and Trojan ARC members attended the Kansas Division ARRL Convention in Salina with a good attendance for the "Pre-Convention" dinner at Martinelli's Restaurant.
We held our annual September fall picnic in Scott City, 15 in attendance, with Dale, NØKQX and Nancy, NØOXQ hosting a "Fox Hunt". 'Fox' was found by Matt, KDØEZS and Gerald, KGØVA.
Long time club member and supporter, Sam Gardner, WØOAG, from Garden City, suffered some medical issues as was moved to Texas to be with his sister. We will miss Sam.
Our annual December meeting and Christmas dinner was held at 'Casa Mariachi' restaurant in Garden City. There were 20 in attendance.
We continue to have the Tuesday 8:30pm ARES net on 146.31/.91, average number of participants has been 8-9 each week.
Matt, KDØEZS, calls the 160m net on Tuesdays at 9pm CT, 8pm MT, on 1960
KHz, all are welcome. He has stations from all around the Midwest at times checking in.
Other activities include the SKECT network nets as well as some activity on the K-Link system.
